Matt Kunz is the Chief Executive Officer of Fastest Labs, where he leads the growth, operational discipline, and franchise performance of a well-positioned, high-growth franchise system in the drug and alcohol testing industry.

Matt is a seasoned franchise executive with more than two decades of experience building and scaling multi-unit franchise brands. Prior to Fastest Labs, he served as President of Mr. Rooter Plumbing and Five Star Painting, two of Neighborly’s largest and most successful franchise systems. In those roles, Matt was responsible for hundreds of locations across North America, hundreds of millions in system revenue, and consistent same-store sales growth — all while strengthening franchisee profitability, leadership development, and operational standards.

Known as a builder and operator, not a theorist, Matt focuses on creating franchise systems that are clear, disciplined, and executable. His leadership is hands-on where it matters most: unit economics, sales performance, operational consistency, and accountability. Franchise owners feel his influence in how the business runs day to day — through well-defined processes, practical coaching, and a culture that rewards execution.

Earlier in his career, Matt held senior franchise operations roles with Sylvan Learning, supporting nearly 800 locations globally and working directly with franchisees to improve performance, compliance, and scalability. He has also been a franchise owner himself, experience that continues to shape how he evaluates decisions through the lens of simplicity, return on investment, and long-term sustainability.

Matt joined Fastest Labs in 2025 as Chief Operating Officer and was promoted to Chief Executive Officer in 2026. In that role, he focuses on continuously strengthening and scaling an already well-run franchise model — refining unit economics, sharpening systems, and building infrastructure to support faster, smarter growth. His leadership emphasizes disciplined expansion, strong execution at the unit level, and a leadership team franchisees and brokers can trust as the brand scales.

Matt holds an Executive MBA from Washington State University and serves in leadership roles with the International Franchise Association, focused on advancing franchise excellence.

Before joining the Fastest Labs corporate team, he was a franchise owner within the system, having built, operated, and scaled multiple Fastest Labs locations. He successfully launched and grew an office from the ground up and later acquired an existing location, improving performance and expanding its market presence. After growing both businesses, he exited successfully, giving him firsthand insight into every stage of the franchise lifecycle.

John approaches leadership at Fastest Labs through the lens of unit economics, sales execution, and real-world operational discipline. His experience as a franchise owner continues to shape how he evaluates systems, initiatives, and investments, with a consistent focus on simplicity, profitability, and scalability at the unit level.

As Executive Vice President, John works closely with franchise owners, the executive team, and key partners to ensure Fastest Labs remains a high-performing, franchisee-focused system. John primarily focuses on growth strategy, operational excellence, and leadership development, with an emphasis on building systems that are clear, executable, and aligned with what actually works in the field.

Brennan Claflin

Executive Director of Franchise Development

Brennan Claflin serves as Executive Director of Franchise Sales for Fastest Labs, where he brings a rare combination of operator experience, leadership discipline, and brand stewardship to the company’s national growth strategy. Based in San Antonio, Texas, Mr. Claflin has held this role since April 2022, guiding franchise development with a clear philosophy: Fastest Labs grows carefully, not carelessly.

Before leading franchise sales, Mr. Claflin lived the business firsthand. He became a Fastest Labs franchisee in October 2020, owning and operating two locations in Austin and San Antonio. That experience continues to shape how he approaches franchise development today. He understands the realities behind the numbers—the operational pressure, the importance of following the system, and the difference between a good opportunity and the right opportunity. Candidates quickly recognize that Mr. Claflin has been in their shoes and speaks from experience rather than theory.

Under his leadership, franchise development at Fastest Labs has remained intentionally selective. Mr. Claflin is known for being protective of the brand and honest with candidates, even when that honesty may slow a transaction or cost the brand a sale. His approach prioritizes long-term franchisee success and system integrity over short-term growth, a mindset that resonates strongly with experienced franchise brokers and serious owner-operators.

Mr. Claflin’s decision to sell his own franchise locations reflects the same judgment he encourages in others. As his wife managed one of the units and their family priorities evolved, he made the deliberate choice to step away from unit ownership so he could fully support the system at a critical stage of growth. The move allowed him to focus entirely on franchise development while ensuring his family—and the brand—were both set up for success.

Prior to franchising, Mr. Claflin built his career in aviation, serving as a commercial pilot and Certified Flight Instructor with Air Austin Services, Van Bortel, and American Flyers. That background instilled a deep respect for systems, precision, accountability, and risk management—principles that continue to influence his leadership style today.

Cat Koehler is Vice President of Marketing at Fastest Labs, responsible for brand strategy, marketing systems, and franchisee execution across one of the most operationally disciplined franchise platforms in the drug, alcohol, and DNA testing industry.

With more than 15 years of experience in franchising and marketing leadership, Cat built her career inside established, operator-driven franchise systems. Prior to Fastest Labs, she held senior marketing roles with Home Instead Senior Care, Right at Home, and HorsePower Brands, working alongside executive teams and franchise owners to scale growth, enforce brand discipline, and implement marketing systems that perform consistently at the unit level.

At Fastest Labs, Cat’s role extends beyond brand positioning or lead generation. She drives how marketing operates across the system, ensuring franchise owners execute with clear positioning, disciplined messaging, and practical frameworks applied at the local level. Her focus is on building repeatable marketing systems that produce performance—not trends or short-term wins.
